6 Thing We Know About The Upcoming Despicable Me 3 Movie

Ardent fans of Despicable Me have a reason to smile. Illuminating Entertainment and Universal Studios, the makers of this animation have announced a third sequel; ‘Despicable Me 3’. What can we expect from this third sequel? Let’s look at what we know so far.

1. Release date

Despicable Me 3 is set to be released in the coming summer. The exact date is 30th June 2017. That’s not too far away. Fans will be eagerly waiting for this release date.

2. All your favourite characters are back

Don’t you just love Lucy, Margo, Edith and Agnes? Well, prepare to marvel at these adorable characters because they make a big comeback in the third sequel.

3. There is a new villain

The new villain is known as Balthazar Bratt. If you think this name is weird, wait till you witness the villain’s antics. He is moody, evil and on a mission to take vengeance on everyone who mocked him when his rock star career faded away. After a successful rock music career in the 80s, his glory days take a hit when he hits puberty. His enemies encompasses just about everyone in the world and he is out to show the world who the boss is.

4. Felonius Gru finds his twin

Felonius remains the doting adoptive dad to Agnes, Margo and Edith and a loving husband to Lucy. He is still the boss of the lovely minions. However, there is a new twist to the plot. Felonius long lost twin brother, Drew, comes into his life again. The two look exactly the same save for the Drew’s blond hair and all-white attire. They even sound the same having been both voiced by Steve Carell. The introduction of Drew introduces a theme of sibling rivalry into the plot. Fans are likely to identify with this theme more. We can’t wait to see what antics Drew has in store for fans.

5. Kevin, Bob and Stuart are still loyal

The magnificent minions that featured prominently in the 2015 Despicable Me spinoff ‘Minions’ also get to feature in this third sequel. They remain the most loyal minions to their master, Felonius Gru, partly because they are the oldest of the minions. Felonius increasingly relies on them as hunch men. Kevin is the undisputed leader of all the minions. They will continue to use their Minionese language that sounds a bit like creole. And they continue to follow the orders of their master Felonius.

6. Agnes gets a different voice

Even though cute Agnes is back with her hilarious antics, expect to hear a little difference in her voice. Voice-over for the character has been done by Nev Scharrel and not Elsie Fisher as in the two previous instalments. We don’t expect a whole lot of difference though. Anyway, we can always put down any voice changes to growth.

The Despicable Me franchise has raked in billions with the previous two instalments. We expect that the third sequel will surpass the billion dollar mark. Who knows? It may even surpass the earning’s grossed by ‘Minions’, the Despicable Me spin-off at the worldwide box office. Whatever the animation earns, we expect that ardent fans will have a great time come next summer.
